I do love me some MSNBC coverage. Hardly ever miss Morning Joe -- sometimes I even watch (shudder) FOX News just to make sure my feelings about them remain justified. But kids, you are totally making me sick this morning.
I don't think you can help this -- this thing I'm about to complain about. But here goes anyway.
Donald Trump is a coarse, rude, profane, misogynistic, shallow, slimy, poorly informed creep. It is discouraging to the point of being tragic that a single American finds him appealing. And I'm not crazy. It's clear a lot of Americans find him appealing. The dumbing-down of the country is far advanced thanks to the FOX News/Rush Limbaugh phenomenon. But that's a rant for another day. Here's what you guys do that drives me so crazy.
You cover those people -- that jerk and the sad, lost people who like him -- so much that you have clearly come to believe, as is tempting for anyone to believe if they watch any of you at all -- that there are far more of them than there could possibly be. Maybe it's a liability of the 24-hour news cycle. I don't really know. I realize that if you don't cover those poor deluded souls you're in danger of being called "biased," as if that tired old charge still carries the weight it once did. So you cave, and the decent candidates who have a sense of courtesy, common decency, and some actual knowledge about issues, civics, history, etc., are put on the back burner while you all scramble to cover the original potty-mouthed carnival barking, plastic surgeryed, many wived, TEN BILLION DOLLARS having creep as if that TEN BILLION DOLLARS somehow gives him a pass on simple courtesy and a bare minimum of understanding of the art and science of governing a nation.
But I digress. The people who cheer for a loser -- and yes, he's a loser, TEN BILLION DOLLARS notwithstanding -- like Donald Trump DO NOT represent a majority of anything but stupid, sad, brain-dead people. If their sons, or husbands, or brothers, acted like that jerk acts they would be ashamed of them. But Donald Trump has TEN BILLION DOLLARS, so that somehow makes it okay. I wish you'd cover it for the psychological phenomenon that it is, instead of as some kind of evidence of a legitimate political movement.
